Temporary Exhibits
The Texas Maritime Museum utilizes second floor south gallery space to engage visitors with rotating exhibitions further detailing the rich maritime history of Texas. These exhibits are usually on display for a six-month period.

Merchant Marines: In Peace & War
The Merchant Marines have been a valuable part of American history since the War for Independence, and their first capture of the HMS Margaretta. The main goal has been to train sailors in the jobs necessary for transporting goods around the globe over the vast oceans. Merchant Mariners have also been entrusted with the duty of transporting the items necessary for fighting wars, such as men, and materiel.
“Merchant Marines: In Peace and War” exhibits the proud history of these men and women who keep our store shelves stocked in peace time, and take the fight to the enemy in war. Opening October 21, 2011 the exhibit features images and artifacts to educate visitors about the Merchant Marines. This is a pertinent topic to Texas’ maritime history with major ports from Brownsville to Orange. The exhibit will also focus on famous Mariners such as Herman Melville, Carroll O’Connor, James Garner, and others. This exhibit will be on display through June on 2012, so you have plenty of time to experience the Merchant Marines.
