Phil Barnes has been
the Curator of the Texas Maritime Museum since May 2004. He
came to Rockport after working 2+ years at the American Airpower
Heritage Museum in Midland, Texas. He, and his wife, Ronda have
been married for 16 years and have three children.
Phil was born in St.
Louis, Missouri and later moved to Louisiana where he would stay
until his junior year in college. For his senior year, 1991, he
transferred to Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas and
completed a BBA in Marketing.
After working in
sales for eight years, Phil went back to Sul Ross, and by 2001
received a Master of Arts in History degree. While working on
this degree, he aided the Museum of the Big Bend in several
projects where he was bit by the museum “bug.”
This is what would
eventually bring Phil and his family to the Texas Maritime
Museum. Phil loves the outdoor activities provided by the
area.
